Entrance

The entrance to the basilica and the monumental complex is through the side door in the loggia on Largo Bargellini (to the left looking at the facade). The exit is through the door of the cloister overlooking Piazza Santa Croce (to the right looking at the facade).

Access for the disabled

There is an access ramp in Largo Bargellini as an alternative to the steps leading from street level to the entrance to the Basilica. The Pazzi Chapel, the Cloisters and the Museum can instead by accessed through the door to the right of the facade.

Reception personnel are available to provide any assistance required for moving around inside the complex.

Prayer area

Within the Basilica there is a special area set aside for prayer. Access is through the same door that leads into the visit itinerary for the Complex. Reception personnel in service at the entrance will provide all the necessary directions and allow access to this area.

Rules of behaviour

The visit to the Complex requires visitors to behave in a manner appropriate to the sacred nature of the site and the security of the historic and artistic heritage present.

More specifically, visitors are reminded that:

  • appropriate clothing should be worn within the Basilica. For this reason, in certain cases visitors will be requested to use the disposable paper capes which are distributed free at the entrance;
  • as a sign of respect for everyone, visitors are invited to lower their voices and to switch off mobile phones;
  • only photographs and video films of an amateur nature are permitted, without the use of artificial light sources, flashes or camera stands;
  • smoking and eating are prohibited in all parts of the complex; drinking is only permitted in the open areas;
  • animals are not allowed.
